📅 On This Day in Rock History

1965: A legendary summit in rock history occurred on this day when Elvis Presley met The Beatles at his home in Beverly Hills. The Fab Four, then at the height of their fame, spent several hours with the King, a meeting that famously included a jam session but was never officially recorded.

1967: Brian Epstein, the man known as the "Fifth Beatle" for his role in managing the band's meteoric rise to fame, was found dead in his London home. His passing was a devastating blow to the band, as John Lennon later said, "I thought, we’ve f**kin had it."

1970: Jimi Hendrix recorded his last-ever studio track, "Slow Blues," at his Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The unreleased track was a jam session and marked the final studio recording for the guitar icon, who would tragically pass away just weeks later.

1982: Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant saw his first solo album, Pictures at Eleven, certified gold in the United States. The album marked a successful new chapter for Plant after the break-up of Led Zeppelin, establishing him as a powerful solo artist.

1989: Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin was arrested in Phoenix for urinating on the floor of a plane. He was upset because he had to wait to use the bathroom. The incident became a notorious piece of rock and roll lore, highlighting the wild lifestyle of the band at the time.

1990: Guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, age 35, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin following a show with Eric Clapton. Considered one of the greatest blues-rock guitarists of all time, Vaughan's life was cut short, leaving a massive void in the music world.

1991: Seattle rockers Pearl Jam released their debut album, Ten, which would go on to be one of the best-selling rock albums of all time. With hits like "Alive," "Even Flow," and "Jeremy," the album helped launch the grunge movement into the mainstream and cemented the band's legacy.

🎂 Rock Star Birthdays

Alex Lifeson of Rush, born on this day in 1953, turns 72. He is best known as the co-founder, guitarist, and backing vocalist for the legendary Canadian progressive rock band. An interesting fact about him is that he was ranked #98 on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, born on this day in 1956, turns 69. He is best known as the original bassist for the iconic punk rock band. An interesting fact is that he was replaced by Sid Vicious in 1977, but he later returned to the band for various reunion tours.
