📅 On This Day in Rock History

1965: A legendary band is born! The Doors recorded their very first demos at World Pacific Jazz Studios in Los Angeles, laying the groundwork for what would become one of the most iconic sounds in rock history. These early recordings captured the raw energy and poetic vision that would soon take the world by storm.

1970: A fateful ad in Melody Maker magazine changed the course of progressive rock forever. Genesis was searching for a drummer, and a young, talented musician named Phil Collins answered the call. His arrival would eventually help propel the band to global superstardom. The rest, as they say, is history.

1977: Thin Lizzy released their eighth studio album, Bad Reputation. This powerhouse record featured the iconic title track and showcased the band's signature twin-guitar attack. It remains a fan favorite and a testament to the incredible songwriting of the late, great Phil Lynott. A true classic from start to finish.

1989: In a moment that showed the dark side of rock and roll, Ozzy Osbourne was arrested and charged with threatening to kill his wife, Sharon. The case was later dropped after the couple reconciled, but it remains a chilling chapter in the life of the Prince of Darkness.

1993: Two generations of rock royalty collided at the MTV Video Music Awards when Pearl Jam joined the godfather of grunge, Neil Young, on stage. They delivered a blistering performance of "Rockin' in the Free World" that became an instant classic and a symbol of rock's enduring power.

We remember Dave Hlubek, the hard-rocking guitarist and founding member of Molly Hatchet, who passed away on this day in 2017 at the age of 66 from a heart attack. Hlubek was the original voice and a key songwriter for the band, penning their biggest hit, "Flirtin' with Disaster." His powerful riffs helped define the Southern rock sound of the late 70s.
