1964 Bob Dylan famously plugged in an electric guitar for the first time at the Newport Folk Festival. His performance of "Maggie's Farm" with a full band was met with a mix of cheers and boos from the folk purist crowd. The controversial set marked a seismic shift in rock and folk music history.

1968 The New Yardbirds, a band formed by Jimmy Page after the demise of The Yardbirds, played their very first gig in Gladsaxe, Denmark. The group would soon change their name to Led Zeppelin, making this date the official birth of one of rock’s most monumental bands, albeit under a different name.

1980 AC/DC began their legendary Back in Black tour with a show in Namur, Belgium. The tour was the band's first with new singer Brian Johnson and was in support of the groundbreaking album of the same name. The tour would go on to be one of the highest-grossing rock tours of the decade.

Keith Moon (age 78)
Born in 1946, Keith Moon was the legendary and explosive drummer for The Who. Known for his frenetic and bombastic drumming style, his work defined the sound of the band and helped shape the identity of classic rock drumming. An interesting fact about Moon is that his chaotic lifestyle and on-stage antics earned him the nickname "Moon the Loon."

Jimi Jamison (age 74)
Born in 1951, Jimi Jamison was the lead singer of the band Survivor from 1984 until his passing. He is best known for his powerful, soaring vocals on hit songs like "The Moment of Truth," "The Search Is Over," and "I Can't Hold Back." A fun fact is that beyond his work with Survivor, Jamison also sang and co-wrote the iconic theme song for the hit TV show Baywatch.

Dean DeLeo (age 64) 
Born in 1961, Dean DeLeo is the guitarist for the multi-platinum band Stone Temple Pilots. His eclectic style, which blends hard rock with psychedelic and alternative influences, was a key component of the band's signature sound. An interesting fact is that he and his brother, Robert DeLeo, started playing in bands together long before forming STP, with their musical collaboration being the foundation of the band.

Rick Springfield (age 76)
Born in 1949, Rick Springfield is a Grammy-winning musician and actor who is best known for his smash hit "Jessie's Girl," which became one of the most iconic songs of the 1980s. A brief fact is that he was a popular actor before his musical career took off, starring as Dr. Noah Drake on the soap opera General Hospital, a role that helped propel him to fame.
